CATHY KELLY : Cathy Kelly is a California-born artist interested in painting scenes that depict nostalgic old California and urban architecture.

Professional training at Orange Coast College in Orange County, California, led to experimentation to find her own style. As a young painter, photo-realism was her ideal goal. Having achieved that goal in her earlier work, she desired to cut loose and paint in a bolder, looser style.

It has often been remarked that her work resembles that of Edward Hopper. She find this high praise as Edward Hopper painted architectural scenes in the 1930’s and 1940’s  directly from his subjects.  Like Hopper with his deliberate, disciplined spareness, Cathy’s paintings are modern in their simplicity yet they are also full of color and nostalgia of the American past. Cathy Kelly strives to convey the feeling of the time as she remembers it from growing up in the Bay area in California in the 1950’s.

Cathy’s work has been exhibited in galleries in Carmel, Sonoma, Orange County and currently in Idyllwild at Mason Fine Art Gallery. She lives and paints in Idyllwild.
